According to billboardradiomonitor.com Infinity has flipped 94.7 WZZN (Active Rocker) "The Zone" out of Chicago, IL to the "True Oldies" format consulted and programmed by Scott Shannon. It is now "94.7 Chicago's True Oldies Channel"
Is this any good? Maybe Shannon does it right, a mass oldies apeal that doesn't play the same 300 burned out songs from 1964-1979 or so. They will continue to run the live feed of the "True oldies" during all dayparts until a new morning/afternoon drive-time jocks can be found. All WZZN staf has exited the station. Othre dayparts that don't have local jocks will continue running the "True Oldies" feed.

94.7 needed an identity. but why bring back oldies after dumping it on a different frequency a few months earlier?

Different company. Huge public outcry. New York has yet to have an oldies station and there is no stations owned by ABC here I dont think, so ti won't be the "True Oldies" format. 94.7 h has an identity crisis for a while now. John

Yeah, and it's off the bird in a lot of dayparts. They wanna go live and local with some of the hosts which I think is good. But man, 94.7 has had more formats than any oher station I know of. That thing has been...let's see...just off the top of my head...94.7 WLS FM, z95, Hell 94.7 in the early 90s, a talk format, Kicks country, CD 94.7 classic rock, The Zone active Rock and now true oldies. and there's probably more I forgot.

OK, it's time to let the expert have his say. First off, 94.7 is not owned by Infinity, but it is now owned by Citadel which bought out all the ABC-owned stations except Radio Disney and ESPN radio affiliates in I believe 2006. And now, station manager Mike Fouler has changed the calls back to WLS-FM, making this the fourth time the station has adopted those calls. Fouler has said he wants to localize the station and make it sound like former top-40 powerhouse WLS-AM. But it's been 4 months since the switch, and the only things Fouler has brought back are some of the old station jingles. None of the old jocks he promised to return to the airwaves have returned. The station still airs Scott Shannon's True Oldies feed during midday weekdays and all weekend long except for 7-midnight Saturdays and Sunday nights. In my opinion, the WLS re-creation and Scott Shannon's satellite feed cannot peacefully co-exist. Shannon has much to do with Chicago as Barrack Obama has to do with George Bush. He needs to get his rear-end back to New York and run his stinking Morning Zoos on Z-100, because we don't need him here in Chicago. Fouler is reluctant to bring back the old WLS jocks probably because he may upset Shannon, and if a broadcaster upsets a head huncho, he's in for it.
